First Responder Alliance

The First Responder Alliance (FRA) serves over 3,200 underserved 9/11 responders and their immediate family members. Partnering with community-based organizations, FRA provides family-centered support services to alleviate stressors and metal health concerns and connects these individuals to the larger 9/11 community.

Through program partners, FRA addresses urgent needs, provides a bridge to external physical and mental health services, helps form connections, develops support systems and assists families to cope with chronic mental and physical issues. We work formally with Adelphi University Institute for Parenting, North Shore Child and Family Guidance Center, Peninsula Counseling Center and WTC Environmental Health Center at NYC Health and Hospitals Corp. We work informally but closely with collaborating organizations dedicated to helping this population, including the Child Mind Institute, Rosen Family Wellness Center of North Shore-LIJ Health System, FDNY Counseling Service Unit, the FealGood Foundation, Friends of Firefighters, Heart 9/11, Mt. Sinai Medical Center, New York Says Thank You, New York State Department of Health, the New York City Mayor’s Office, WTC Medical Monitoring and Treatment Centers in NY and NJ, the NYC Mental Health Association, Police Organization Providing Peer Assistance (POPPA), the Stephen Siller Foundation, Asociación Tepeyac de New York, AFL-CIO Member Assistance Program and numerous community associations.

FRA Services:
  • Provide programs and counseling for 9/11 responders and their families
  • Engage 9/11 responders in building community to decrease isolation
  • Provide wellness and enrichment programs for 9/11 responder families
  • Provide psycho-education programs for responders, spouses and children to improve family dynamics, including communication, stress management, parenting, self-esteem and healthy living

FRA is supported by individual, corporate and foundation donors and a 2012-2014 cooperative award from the World Trade Center Health Program (WTCHP), administered by NIOSH and the CDC.
