Tuesday’s Children invites parents to a full day workshop given by Charlie Appelstein, MSW, noted author and lecturer.
When: Tuesday, March 23, 2010 from 10am-3pm (lunch will be served)
Where:
Strength based parenting is a positive and inspiring approach to child rearing. It is based on the belief that all children and those who care for them – despite challenging life circumstances - have strengths and past successes that enhance positive decision making and social functioning. This upbeat, humorous, musical, and engaging workshop will present principles and techniques that help you maximize the greatness that exists in your child and family.
Topics covered include:
- What is strength-based parenting?;
- Decoding and reframing behavior;
- Verbal interventions that provide hope, possibility and enhanced parent/child connections;
- Strategies for building self-esteem in children;
- Tips for helping parents manage “number one” first;
- How to understand and respond – instead of react – to challenging behaviors.

Charlie Appelstein - Credentials & Experience
- Twenty-Seven Years of Experience Working in Child Welfare
- Six Years as Program Director and Treatment Coordinator for the Nashua Children's Home, a Residential Treatment Setting in Southern, New Hampshire
- Fifteen Years of Experience as a Workshop Presenter
- First Place Award Recipient in the Albert Trieschman Literature Competition Open Category, 1991
- Received Master of Social Work Degree in 1987 from Simmons College of Social Work
- Consult and Provide Training to Numerous School Systems throughout New England, Primarily in Massachusetts
- Consult and Provide Ongoing Training to Residential Programs throughout the Country
- Author of : The Gus Chronicles: Reflections from an Abused Kid
- Author of : The Gus Chronicles II: Reflections from a Kid Who Has Been Abused
- Author of : No Such Thing As a Bad Kid: Understanding and Responding to the Challenging Behavior of Troubled Children and Youth
- Created the Successful Train the Trainer Seminar for Senior Residential Care Professionals, and Authored a 100-Plus Page Training Manual
