Hudson River Sailing
June 30 , 2009

On one of the few sunny days in June, our teens participated in a one day sailing program delivered by Hudson River Community Sailing.
This unique opportunity to sail on the Hudson River was enjoyed by all. Not only did they learn the basics of sailing in a safe and congenial environment, it was a program that helped the teens connect with each other as they worked as a team sailing their vessels.
A great time was had by all.
A special thanks to Hudson River Community Sailing for providing this wonderful program. |

July 12th, 2009
Tuesday's Children's 2nd Annual Fishing Trip on the Taryn-Ann Charter Fishing Boat was another huge success!
Captain John and his crew hosted us for a fun filled afternoon of fluke fishing, with a few catches of crabs and sea robins!
Mentors, mentees and families all had the opportunity to fish and to enjoy time on the water.
Special thanks to Neil Flynn and the Katherine Marie Flynn Foundation for sponsoring the event |
Another Successful Year for Project Common Bond
For one week in August while their friends were hanging out on summer vacation, teenagers from Israel, Liberia, Northern Ireland, Spain and the US met to share with each other and learn how their “common bond” of losing a family member to an act of terrorism has changed their lives.
The ipods were left behind, the cell phones were put down and the sleeves were rolled up as they participated in an interactive Global Youth Leadership retreat that also included various workshops in art, theater, music, movement and sports.
The words sharing and understanding took on new meaning as friendships were formed that will last a lifetime. “I grew in friendship and family. This week truly impacted my life.”

Most important thing you learned?: “I learned about peace-building.” “Everyone has a deep connection.” “That I am not alone in trying to figure out this game we call life.” “The most important thing I learned is understanding.” “What lies behind conflict and how we can use this understanding to make a difference.” “I told my story for the first time and I feel like a weight has been lifted off my shoulders.” “That I’m not alone.”
Ways in which you grew? “I’ve become inspired by the people I’ve met and more motivated to make a difference.” I was able to connect with people from around the world and people who share the same experience as me.” “I learned how to trust people more.” “I was taught crying was weak, but now I can be free with my emotions.” “I grew in friendship and family. This week truly changed my life.”
Peace-building project that you are inspired to work on? “I want to start a global leadership club that creates awareness about terrorism throughout the world and what we can do to support those affected and how we can affect peace.” “I’m inspired to improve my community through clean up projects.” “To stop tension in a neighborhood in my town.” “Collaborating with all my peers from Project Common Bond to stay active in our communities.”
Project Common Bond will continue in 2010 and will expand to include more teenagers from other nations.

Scavenger Hunt
September 26th, 2009:
On a beautiful fall afternoon, mentors, mentees and families participated in a Watson Adventure Scavenger Hunt through Central Park. Each team explored Central Park while searching for the answers to the clues. The teams were asked to come up with creative names, some of which were “Central Park 7” and “Central Park Reservoir Dogs”. The scavenger hunt took the teams to many parts of the park including the Carousel, Sheep’s Meadow, the Mall and Wollman Rink. All of the teams worked very hard to complete the hunt but in the end the "Central Park 7" won! |
Freedom Concert
Hosted by Mark Sly, September 13th, 2009
The first annual Freedom Concert hosted by Mark Sly was held on September 13rd, 2009 at the Florida Fire House in Florida, NY.
Mark brought together seven musicians for a full day of good food, raffles and great music! Mark Sly, a survivor of 9/11, sought to support Tuesday's Children specifically after hearing that there had been budget cuts.
He successfully put together an event for people of all ages that raised over $3,000 for Tuesday's Children and is already talking about concert for next year!"
