On Thursday, May 17th Tuesday's Children was delighted to host our "Toast to You" event this past Thursday, May 17th, honoring top supporters, program partners, volunteers and mentors for an evening of appreciation and recognition. These generous partners enable Tuesday's Children to provide the numerous programs and services for all family members.
The Mentor of the Year award was presented to Colette, a five-year volunteer in the Mentoring Program, by last year's Mentor of the Year, Keith. Colette and Charlotte, her mentee, are celebrating their five year match anniversary this month. Colette has supported Charlotte in countless ways including being her confirmation sponsor, chaperoning her at Take Our Children to Work Day for years and sharing many memories including their adventurous trips exploring the city. Thank you, Colette, for your dedication to Charlotte and support of Tuesday's Children!
On Tuesday, May 15th the New York Mets kicked off the baseball season with their annual "Summer Series" Mets Meet and Greets in April and May! Tuesday's Children was welcomed to meet with the Met players and get autographs and pictures taken with their favorite players.
Tuesday's Children is looking forward to the rest of the season with the New York Mets!
On Thursday, May 10th at Plandome Country Club in Plandome, New York, Tuesday's Children honored Manhasset residents Daniel and Kathleen Denihan for their unwavering dedication and ongoing support of Tuesday's Children's vital programs and services. The Denihans were awarded Tuesday's Children’s Leadership Award, an award given to friends of Tuesday’s Children who have demonstrated an exemplary commitment to the 9/11 community.
Over 200 guests filled the room for a lovely evening of dinner, music and remembrance. All stood and joined Father Kevin Smith in recommitting to the promise they made 10 years ago to the children who lost a parent on 9/11 – to be there for them and support them until they reach adulthood. It was a most memorable evening.
Over $100,000 was raised in support of Tuesday’s Children’s programs and services.
On Wednesday, May 9th Tuesday's Children and the Child Mind Institute presented a Speak Up for Kids program on 'Raising Resilient Children". The presentation, given by noted child and adolescent psychiatrist, Dr. Alan Ravitz, focused on how to foster resilience and support children as they recover from the loss of a parent or loved one.
A portion of this program was skyped into the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration's (SAMHSA's) gala reception in WashingtonDC as part of their National Children's Mental Health Awareness Day. Tuesday's Children received national recognition for their work with children. Tuesday's Children is committed to speaking up for our kids as children's mental health matters!
On Thursday, April 26th, Tuesday’s Children hosted the annual Take Our Children to Work Day program. Over 100 children participated in the national day with over 30 corporate placements. Corporate placements included: American Express, Beacon Restaurant, Gregory J. Cannata&Associates, CNN, Coach, FBI, Friars Club, Grace Institute, New York Humane Society, IAVA, JP Morgan, LinkedIn, Lippe Taylor, L’Oreal, Michael Kors, MLB, Myriad Restaurant, New York Mets, New York Yankees, NHL, NYPD, NYSE, Palese Lab (Mount Sinai School of Medicine), Patch/Aol, Peoples Improv Theater, Ralph Lauren, Silverstein, Stillwell Partners, The Legacy Agency, Warner Bros Wilhelmina Modeling Agency, Yahoo and Zenith Optimedia. As one participant from Palese Lab said, “Thank you for this opportunity, I will always remember it."
The program for adults was held at the Friars Club, including special guests from the Gift of Laughter Wounded Warrior Program, a non-profit organization that provides uplifting entertainment to enhance and increase the well being of troops injured in Iraq and Afghanistan. As one parent said “This was a special opportunity to share the gift of laughter with family and friends!”
