Project COMMON BOND

Project_Common_Bond

Project COMMON BOND is an unprecedented program that creates an international community for teenagers that have lost an immediate family member through an act of terrorism.  The lack of community building forums inspired Tuesday's Children to seize an opportunity and harness our expertise to improve the attitudes, awarenss, and knowledge of young people leading to positive, personal and community action.  Together with world renowned experts in the fields of leadership, intercultural communication, tolerance and expressive arts, Project COMMON BOND fosters collaboration, peace building and global stewardship.  Creating community with peers who share common experiences is a powerful tool for healing and transformation, especially for young people. As a result of attending Project COMMON BOND:

  • 100% of those attending enjoyed getting to know others similarly impacted
  • 92% learned to value and appreciate the differences in people
  • 88% better understood other people’s perspectives and opinions
  • 87 % improved in their ability to cooperate with others

Parent Feedback

"I have to tell you that Project COMMON BOND was the best thing that has happened to Zach since 9/11. He formed friendships that were invaluable to him. Being with others who truly knew how he felt inside and all that he has been through was therapeutic beyond words. I thank you and all of those who put the camp together from the bottom of my heart. Zach said that he met the nicest people. He loved his counselor and formed friendships that he feels he will have forever. Please let us know as soon as possible when next year's camp will be so we can mark it in our calendar!"

Participant Feedback

"I went to the US for a summer camp. Not an ordinary camp; it was a camp for teenagers from many countries who have lost a family member to terrorism. Before camp, I did not realize that there was terrorism outside of Israel. Of course I knew, but I was never able to look at it as more than numbers and dates – dry facts, statistics. Being at Project COMMON BOND with all these kids, seeing that they are going through everything that I went through, everything that every terror victim I know has gone through…has got me to a realization. There was a real tragedy (9/11) behind these facts, there are real stories behind this tragedy, there are names behind these stories, and there are faces, real people behind the names. We have all seen hundreds of times, in different places, all over the world what hatred can do. Unless we do something to stop it from happening again, unless we take our small step, nothing will ever matter."

“I told my story for the first time and feel like a weight has been lifted off my shoulders."

“I learned that I can relate to others- like I wasn’t alone. I also became able to speak about my experience.”

“I’ve become inspired by the people I’ve met and more motivated to make a difference. I’ve also felt a connection to every person.”

“I was able to connect with people from around the world and people who share the same experiences as me.”
