On June 11, 2013 Tuesday’s Children invited the Resiliency Center of Newtown to enjoy a Mets game and Meet-and-Greet. Families were able to watch a game together and get autographs from some of their favorite Mets players.
One of the Responders said “You have no idea the healing that is happening right now. You can’t see it, but it’s happening everywhere. Many of these guys haven’t seen each other in six months – since December 14th – so glad you got both the Police Department and Firehouse here tonight.“

On Thursday, June 6th Tuesday’s Children’s Career Resource Center, in partnership with LinkedIn, invited high school seniors, college aged students and recent graduates to participate in the biannual, “Career Networking” program. Students had the exclusive opportunity to meet one on one with employees from LinkedIn to review resumes, update their LinkedIn profiles and seek advice as they begin to navigate their internship and career search. John and Patrick from LinkedIn presented a seminar on how to best utilize LinkedIn and social media when searching for internships and jobs.
Following the LinkedIn seminar, students were able to network with professionals from a variety of industries including: financial services, media & entertainment, fashion, legal, recruitment and science & medical . After the networking one participant noted, ” This has helped me get more of an idea for my future and understand more job opportunities.”

Tuesday’s Children hosted the biannual Navigating the College Process Workshop on Sunday, May 5, 2013. 60 family members were guided through the important steps necessary by Matthew Greene and Ginger Miller of Howard Greene and Associates, Dr. Patricia Peek, Associate Dean of Admissions at Fordham University, and Don Betterton of Betteron College Financial Planning. They each shared their expertise on navigating through all aspects of the college application process.
Rhianna Quinn Roddy from Families of Freedom Scholarship Fund provided families helpful information on available scholarships. As one parent commented, “This program has been wonderful. It is the very best college program I have ever been to. This is probably my 5th time and I always learn something new.” Tuesday’s Children extends a sincere and heartfelt thank you to Fordham University for providing the venue and lunch for the workshop. Tuesday’s Children will be hosting High School Seniors on September 15th. Seniors will have the opportunity to meet with college experts for a private one-on-one sessions to review their essays and applications.

On May 3rd, MTV/Viacom invited Tuesday’s Children to participate in their event for Take Our Children to Work Day. Seven children had the exclusive opportunity to spend a day at the MTV/Viacom offices. The participants learned about the various networks within Viacom: MTV, Nickelodeon, Comedy Central, VH1, and many more. After touring the facilities and participating in workshops to learn about the different areas of Viacom, the participants had the honor of viewing a musical performance by Lilla Crowfard, the Broadway star of Annie!
They also got the chance to meet the cast of the Nickelodeon show, Nick Studios 10 and hear about how they started their careers in acting. The day continued with arcade games, characterture drawings, and experiencing a virtual reality. Tuesday’s Children extends a sincere and heartfelt thank you MTV/Viacom for this wonderful day and for hosting Take Our Children to Work Day for the past 10 years!

On Thursday, April 25th, Tuesday’s Children hosted the annual Take Our Children to Work Day program. Close to 100 children participated in the national career shadow day with over 20 corporate placements.
Corporate placements included: AOL, Donna Karan New York (DKNY), Emmis Radio (Hot 97), FBI, FDNY Engine 304, Grace Institute, J.P. Morgan Chase, L’Oreal, LinkedIn, Marsh & McLennan, Michael Kors, Morgan Stanley, Myriad Restaurant Group (Tribeca Grill), National 9/11 Memorial and Museum, New York Mets, National Hockey League (NHL), NYPD Special Operations, Ogilvy & Mather, Palese Lab at Mt. Sinai School of Medicine, The People’s Improv Theater, Silverstein Properties, Spaeth Design, Stillwell Partners and Stuart Weitzman.
As one mom said, “My children had a very enjoyable , enlightening , eye opening experience today! It truly helps with their processing of junior year decisions”. Adults were invited to stay for an enriching “Lunch and Learn” which included renowned speakers including “Empowering and Supporting Parents” by Dr. Natalie Weder, “Stress Relief Techniques” by Shane Kulman, and “Optimistic Outlook” by Dr. Robert Brooks.

On Wednesday, April 24th, Tuesday’s Children kicked off Take Our Children to Work Day with the National Football League! Participants had the special opportunity to get a closer look into the inner-workings of the NFL. The day included learning about the NFL Rush Zone Series, traveling to Radio City Music Hall to see behind the scenes of the upcoming NFL Draft, and participating in the Play 60 Youth Football Festival which included football drills with some of the current NFL players and Hall of Fame members.
As one participant said, “It was a great experience to be exposed to a day behind the scenes of such an organization as the NFL.”

On April 23rd Tuesday’s Children, together with the Mets, were provided a chance to thank Veterans for their service and sacrifice by providing them with an evening with the Mets. The Veterans and their families spent time with many of the players, Dillon Gee, Scott Rice, and Mike Baxter to name a few. The families had a wonderful time collecting autographs and taking photos with the players. Everyone shared dinner together and then cheered on the Mets. It was a wonderful time of fun and healing through shared experience.

Travis Hamonic, New York Islanders defenseman #36, invited Tuesday’s Children’s Mentoring Program as his guests to 4 games this hockey season. Mentor matches had the special opportunity to sit in Hamonic’s seats and meet him after the game! Travis felt a special connection to Tuesday’s Children because he lost his father when he was 10 years old. Travis felt like he wanted to give back and connect with children who have experienced a similar loss. A big thank you to Travis Hamonic and the New York Islanders for providing Tuesday’s Children with such a meaningful experience.
